Next Tuesday, May 31st (update: and the last Tuesday of every month until the end of 2011), marks the latest edition of Martedi in Arte – the monthly offering when quite a few state museums are open late (and free!). We highly recommend taking advantage of the extra hours at Castel Sant’Angelo, where you can enjoy a drink and one of the best sunsets in the city. Other cultural institutions open include: Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Museo Nazionale Romano (Palazzo Massimo alle Terme, Palazzo Altemps, Terme di Diocleziano, and Crypta Balbi), Pantheon, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Antica in Palazzo Corsini, Museo e Galleria Borghese, Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant’Angelo, Villa d’Este (Tivoli).
When: The last Tuesday of every month until the end of 2011 from 7pm-11pm
Where: Rome – see above for full list
How much: They’re all free!
Why: Art is cool. But it’s even cooler at night and when you don’t have to pay to see it
