Help me pick a subtitle for my upcoming book about Italy, and win a free copy!

Hokay. Picture this. You’re perusing the options in your favorite bookstore when all of a sudden you spy with your little eye a book called The Italian Aunt. Hmmm, you think. That could be interesting (right? Right?!). You pick it up. On first impact, what subtitle from the below would most intrigue you?

  1. A modern tale of homecoming through generations past
  2. The memories of the generations before her will lead her home
  3. You can’t take Italy out of the girl
  4. One global girl’s struggle to leave her roots behind will lead her to the memories of the women before her

If you vote (please comment in the comment box below, or if you’d prefer, you can also email me directly at younginrome@gmail.com), I’ll automatically stick your name in the running for a giveaway of the book when it comes out in April! AND IT WILL HAVE A REAL SUBTITLE!

Your amazing opinions are so appreciated! I’ll leave this post open for input until Monday, 4 December, after which I’ll draw the winning names! I’ll be giving away two copies, and the winners will be picked randomly.

If a totally brand-new subtitle not on this list pops into your creative head, please feel free to let me know! If I end up using it, I’ll absolutely acknowledge you in the book.

Thanks so much, YiR-ers. I am so thrilled beyond belief to be able to share this story with all of you soon. I’ve been working on it for years, and to have it become a real, tangible thing… It’s a dream come true, and I’m so glad you guys are a part of it.

Update: The subtitle has been picked, and so have the winners of the giveaway! Check out the results here!

  1. I’d go for no. 4
One global girl’s struggle to leave her roots behind will lead her to the memories of the women before her

  2. Ciao Flavia and congratulations for your first book! I love the title and makes me want to read rn. I like n.1 as coicise as the title. The best though could also be n.4 if you’d 1-shorten it, which you can, and 2- eliminate “struggle” which could potentially “discourage” who wants to read a story to relax and will not be enticed by having to make an effort. Good luck!

  3. Ciao
My vote: The memories of the generations before her will lead her home.

However, I also suggest minor change to:
How memories of the generations before [her] will lead her home.
the two “hers” are a little awkward.
    OR
How memories of the generations past led me home [before her will lead her home]

Secondo me, piu’ corto e’ meglio/1

    • Ciao Martina! Thanks so much for voting, and especially for your great comment – the variation I have for this line is, “the memories of generations will lead her home”, and I was just wondering if this was a better choice! Hai ragione, più corto è decisamente meglio! Grazie veramente tanto!
